Naga Munchetty admits to “struggling” with “constant pain” her entire life as she shares debilitating diagnosis

BBC Breakfast star Naga Munchetty has given a heart-wrenching glimpse into her life-long illness.

The presenter detailed how the “constant” pain she experiences has impacted every single job she’s had.

Naga, 49, was diagnosed with adenomyosis in 2022. The painful condition is where the lining of the womb starts growing into the muscle in the wall of the womb. The Breakfast star has now opened up to the “struggle” she faces whilst living with the illness.

Naga lifted the lid on her experience with the gynaecological condition in a chat with Metro. However, she did confess that she was worried about being viewed as weak when speaking out about the discomfort she faces due to the condition.

Now she has spoken out, Naga admitted that is has eased the burden. She explained that speaking out has made the illness more manageable as she feels she can vocalise when she is “struggling”.

“I don’t worry about being seen as someone who is using it as an excuse to not work.”

Struggle to get a diagnosis

However, the broadcaster did note that getting a diagnosis wasn’t easy, even with her high-profile job. She said that whenever she visited the doctor, she was told her symptoms – which include heavy bleeding – were normal.

The fitness fanatic said of her symptoms: “I wouldn’t sleep because I would have to set an alarm say for two in the morning. Every four hours, and I would be lying on a towel and I’d have a heavy sanitary towel and a super plus tampon in, I’d set an alarm to change.”

Naga also explained that she had felt compelled to smile through the pain.

She said that she has done her entire life, even throughout her GCSEs and A-Levels.
